The Beauty Trap
Podcast Episode 2
The Conversation
Feynman confesses: he did not follow elegance to the path integral. He followed the math into a dark room and tripped over the answer. Beauty showed up after. The beauty was the receipt, not the guide.
Sagan responds: look at the Hubble Deep Field. Three thousand galaxies in an area you could cover with a grain of rice. That beauty is structural — a receipt written in starlight. But machines now forge receipts.
Fuller closes: you do not test the strut. You test the structure. A fake strut fails when the dome is stressed. The beauty trap is not that machines make beautiful things. The beauty trap is that we have forgotten how to ask for the receipt.
Hit play. Six minutes of three dead scientists arguing about whether beauty can still be trusted.
